Welcome to my second newsletter since joining the Royal Lion Hotel last December, 2010 is marching on and it seems as though it was only last week we were celebrating the New Year.
Many winter projects have now been completed. The original reception desk has been removed and the new desk installed. The Oak Room Restaurant has new carpet and lighting which enhances the already stylish wooden panelling. The newly refurbished Monmouth lounge is fast becoming a central meeting area for our guests to enjoy freshly brewed coffee and a delightful selection of cakes. I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy the cosy atmosphere we have created in this lounge area. After lots of dust and head scratching from Wally, our maintenance man, the major refurbishment of a further five bedrooms and bathrooms is now complete.
Other new features for the hotel this year include our new bedroom room service menu and new bar and restaurant menus, of which many ingredients have been sourced from local farms.
Over recent months we have also had a few changes in the management of the hotel. James Scott has joined us as Deputy General Manager and Sylke Oheler is our new Junior Assistant Manager. Both have a wealth of hotel experience and are looking forward to welcoming you on your next visit to the hotel over the coming months.
The wine tasting weekends are a new venture for the hotel and we hope to run these events throughout the next year sourcing wine from local as well as national vineyards. The first of these events is on the 3rd /4th December 2010. Arrive at your leisure on Friday and dinner that evening will be an around the world three course buffet of fine food and wines. We will be starting with Europe and New World wine, touching on America and finishing in the Muscat region of France. Saturday will start with breakfast in our dining room followed by a short ride to a local vineyard where we will be experiencing local wines and the fermentation process, finishing with a tasting session. Saturday evening will be our gala wine tasting dinner commencing with canapés and aperitif’s followed by a five course dinner of classic British dishes complimented by various British wines with each course. Sunday morning we will be serving a brunch style breakfast before you depart. Bookings are now being taken for these events.
Also don’t forget our first weekend of murder/mystery on 19th/20th November, places are filling rapidly so don’t miss out, this weekend will be one to remember. Join us on the Friday evening for a cocktail and canapé reception in the Monmouth lounge, followed by a 3 course candlelight supper in the Oak Room Restaurant. After a hearty breakfast in the morning enjoy a day at leisure before a night of murder mystery and intrigue. Sunday Morning enjoy a brunch style breakfast before you sadly have to leave us. Or you could stay on for an extra night or Sunday lunch.
